Perth Drivers

So after I recently just got involved in a car accident (entirely not my fault) I’ve decided to write a blog about driving.

My friend got hit twice in the space of 3 hours.

Looking at the Perth road rules, I can see why they’re such bad drivers.

How to get your Ps

Age Limit

Victoria – 18

NSW – 17

WA – 17

Recorded Hours in Log Book

Victoria – at least 120 hours of supervised driving in a variety of conditions, including 10 hours at night.

NSW - at least 120 hours driving time (which includes 20 hours of night driving)

WA – On or after your 17th birthday, and once your log book has been checked and verified that you have completed the minimum 25 hours, you can sit the HPT to get your provisional licence.

There’s your answer.

  1. This blog has a very Julian-esque vibe to it. Anyway, I googled the subject, just for interests sake, to see if Perth drivers were universally known for their bad driving, or if it was just you & Julian who’d had bad experiences. Anyway, I came across this article, which I thought was mildly interesting.

    http://fictionalcorporeality.blogspot.com/2008/06/perth-driving-restrictions-bad-news-for.html

Although the chic writing it seems to think the new restrictions is a bad thing.

  2. Perth drivers are terrible, Sheri. I know because I am one.

I was in an accident this afternoon. Was heading home in peak hour traffic and wanted to merge into the right hand lane. We were crawling along at 10 kmp/h so I put on my indicator. Just as I had turned my head to check my blind spot, the guy in front of me put on the brakes.

I was just turning my head back when I went straight into the back of his car.

The police were nearby and I got charged with careless driving, and I have a $100 fine to pay (plus whatever the damage is on my car and his…)

However, I don’t think that the fact that I only had 25 hours supervised driving before I got my P plates had anything to do with it. There are zillions of freeway accidents like this every week. I’m sure just as many accidents like this occur in NSW and VIC too.

Anyway, as a general rule of thumb, Perth drivers don’t know how to indicate properly at roundabouts (or at all, for that matter). They don’t know how to stick to the speed limit. They also don’t know how to merge.

    That’s my 5c worth.

  3. Well Sheri, you know three people in Perth all who’ve had at least one accident in the past few weeks. I think that says something.

As for the rest, well, we’ve all heard my speal on that…

By the way Robin, you’re spot-on. I think finishing high school a year earlier than us has something to do with it too.

  4. And if anyone cares to argue with me on that last point I can’t be bothered backing it up or anything.

  5. Wait a minute … was Perth built on some sort of ancient Indian burial ground?

  6. this blog is cool
